GreenCape has published a utility-scale renewable energy case study looking at the community benefits derived through the prescribed socio-economic development policy of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producers Procurment Programme (REIPPPP).

This case study highlights how CPV Power Plant No.1 (RF) (Pty) Ltd and the Independent Power Producer (IPP) financed the installation of two 20kW solar PV systems for Touwsrivier Primary School and Steenvliet Primary School. These installations formed part of the REIPPPP socio-economic development policy which requires that each approved project invests a minimum of 1% of its total project revenue into socio-economic development programmes for communities within a 50km radius of the project site.

The installation of these solar systems has benefited the schools through reduced electricity costs, enabling the schools to redirect limited budgets to core educational needs as well as exposing learners to renewable energy infrastructure.
