GreenCape & Friedrich Naumann Foundation host Innovations for Water Resilience Competition

15 October 2018

GreenCape has published a new industry brief for industrial and commercial businesses who would like to benefit from grid-connected solar PV systems (or other renewable energy systems) of less than 1MW.

The brief outlines the different ways that systems can be funded and dispels the myth that it is impossible to finance renewable energy systems without incurring significant upfront costs.

Businesses will find information on innovative solutions, including offerings by SA’s major banks, power purchase agreements, and financing through local online impact investing platforms.

The Competition invited all innovators, start-ups, and businesses to enter for the opportunity to win R20 000 worth of business development support by pitching their water innovations or products to a panel of judges as part of a “shark tank-style” pitching competition and networking event.

The winner of the competition was LiquidGold Africa, a company that provides a waterless and gender-neutral urinal technology with a nutrient-recovery waste capturing system for product conversion into bio-fertilizer for use in agriculture.

LiquidGold Africa was selected as the winners of the competition for their exceptional water-conscious and resource-innovative technology. GreenCape and FNF will join forces in working together with LiquidGold Africa to assist in developing their business, identifying new market opportunities, and addressing water-scarcity through promotion of LiquidGold Africa’s technologies and products.

The six remaining top finalists who participated in the competition were honoured with Certificates of Participation as Top Finalists selected at the Competition. They included:

  • Impact Free Water (Pty) Ltd

  • Sustainable Water Council

  • Infinity Showers

  • Pro-flo Water Saving Nozzles

  • The VulAmanz Water Treatment Technology Platform

  • El Mat Sustainable Solutions

The Competition was concluded with statements by Minister Alan Winde who congratulated LiquidGold Africa on their win and expressed his support for the water-conscious work done by the company.
