Get to know our new HR Manager, Samsonisa Lee

What is your background expertise and how does it relate to your role here at GreenCape?

I have an Honours degree in Industrial Psychology from the University of the Western Cape. I have completed my course work for my Master’s degree, thesis pending. I have further certification in Production Management and Labour Relations and have completed the HR Masterclass.

In the past, I have worked in the Automotive Industry, who manufactured components for various OEM’s as well as the FMCG industry who manufactured and distributed dairy products and CSD’s to retailers. I mainly focused on HR processes, policy and strategy formulation and implementation.

What has been your favourite thing about GreenCape so far?

The passion and enthusiasm of all fellow GreenCapers. The team has a wealth of knowledge and are open to sharing their experiences. The manner in which colleagues explain what they do and the impact they want to make; the path we as GreenCapers help others and ourselves to find, the connections and bridges we build…is inspiring to say the least.

What project have you been working on as you start your role here at GreenCape?

I’m currently working on closing our recruitment gaps to ensure we can meet our sector demands as well as focusing on understanding the magnitude and complexity of our roles and matching the outcome against the market.

Why do you do what you do?

I am inspired by the principles and the spirit of Ubuntu; we are all connected, it is US as a collective which makes us great. HR should be an instrument to bring about that consciousness towards compassion, to serve as a bridge between colleagues and decision makers. The reason I am in HR is because I want to aid in decision making which improves the working experience.

What impact do you hope to achieve?

My Goals at GreenCape is to understand the business and become a partner to both leaders and colleagues. To encourage transparent and solution focused communications. To know the pulse of the business and its people. I want to learn and know each sector in-depth with a target of someday being involved in one of our projects not as HR but as a member of a project team.

What do you get up to in your spare time?

I enjoy spending time with my kids, playing board games, hiking or even just lounging and watching a movie. I sometimes sporadically will join a Meetup Group for either a hike or a breakfast. I also enjoy detaching from the world and having “me time” experiences.
