GreenCape has created a toolkit from an extensive literature search of resources available to community development practitioners on best practice when developing community projects in Just Transition hotspots.
Whilst there is a substantial amount of information available, one knowledge gap that has emerged relates to how funders of these community projects (Independent power producers (IPPs), donors, philanthropists, and government etc.) should work with communities and community-based intermediary organisations in order to realise impact.
This guide highlights the evolving role of intermediary organisations in fostering locally-led development in Africa, with a focus on empowering African communities and organisations.
This brief is designed for philanthropists, IPPs, donors, companies and other funders engaging in community-level Just Transition projects in Africa. It outlines why working with trusted intermediary organisations is critical to unlocking meaningful, community-led impact – and offers guidance on how to do so.
